Alpine Luddites

Karakoram Camel expedition pack.

the Karakoram Camel, designed in conjunction with Ed @feedingtheratexpeditions for use on their trips to the north side of K2 and Gasherbrum 1 trips. The camel name came from the fact camels carry gear to base camp and these packs needed to both fit in the barrels( blue barrel in photos is 75L.) during river crossings, when you are often ride them across as well. Once at Base camp, these pack allow you to lash the plastic barrels to carry to the lower camps above on K2’s north ridge.

Volume of the main pack bag is 85-95 Liters. Lid is 9 liters.

The foam pad is used daily as part of the sleep system, it unfolds to 20”x48”, designed to be used in conjunction with a full length self inflating foam filled pad. The pocket design is to make using it easily accessible and easy to put it back every morning. The twin 7075-T6 alloy frame stays are in a very thin ldpe sheet, not because I like frame sheets, I don’t, but it was the easiest way to use the pad and remove the frame for climbing higher up.

The full pack is just over 6 lbs. the main sack can be carried alone and weighs 1.2 kg, 2 lbs 10 oz.

Built entirely from 8 oz UHMWPE with bright orange cordura trim on the bottom, with vx25 bivy extension and the underside of the lid. There is also big patches of 3M reflective tape.

The side compression straps are movable and removable . They use alloy G hooks to lash on the barrels( in the past they used haul bags. Probably more awful than it sounds) same for the front side of the lid.

Carbon fiber ice tool carries made for me by @eliteclimb in Poland( their carbon fiber ice tools are game changing for alpine climbing). you can order with the regular tool sleeve too.

These packs can be built, like all my packs , to fit any size body.

Black flag logo was designed for these pack.

Go to @feedingtheratexpeditions website and spend a few hours having your mind blown of what's available to climb, explore, trek on the north side of the Himalaya/ Karakoram/Tibet/ western China. I plan to go in late 2023 if anyone want's to come.

These packs, have a set of features that can be added to any of my alpine packs: the carbon fiber ice tool holders, the folding bivy pad and it's top loading sleeve, the flatter lid with the huge zipper access. I already offer the G hooks. The price includes my laminated 8 oz woven UHMWPE.

the best way to get on the list is to email me, jc@alpineluddites.com , and set up a phone call. We can talk over your needs, as every pack is designed for each customer.
