THE ART OF SUFFERING

KURTYKA WAS A LEADING PROPONENT OF FAST AND LIGHT IN THE 1970s and 1980s. This is a historically important essay written in 1988.

It's hard to believe, but the tongue-in-cheek speculation in the pub in the 70's has become a Himalayan reality of the 80's. We once joked about climbing naked at night (the ultimate...

The first finished Alpine Luddites seat bag. I never planned to offer bike packing gear, I just wanted to build my own for racing. However, this bag came out so well ,and i'm immediately getting requests, i'm offering custom fitted seat bags. Makes my Waltwork's bike look smashing.

this version weighs all of 7 oz. the lightest production bag i could find ,with a listed weight, was 12 oz. I used the...

Buckled

March 25, 2015

Another custom Pinnacle pack off to Japan today. I really like the new metal buckles from Waterbury. they are very strong, designed to hold military gear. made in the US.

the new buckle did ad 1 oz to the overall weight. from 18 to 19 ozs now. I pleased that a pack made out of such heavy fabrics, double bottoms and 1/2" thick foam shoulder straps comes in so light. the durability of these materials...

Waltworks 29'r!

March 20, 2015

My new 29'r. built by Walt in Park City, UT. waltworks.com. i'm surprised more people don't buy handmade bikes. this frame cost less than a mass produced carbon, Ti bike from Asia. I'm not knocking Asian made bikes. but think about the custom fit you get from a custom builder, the quality is always very high and your money stays local. I think if you're serious or just love bikes and cycling the...

sold!!!

Somedays I just need more coffee. I finished this Black Crag pack this morning, due to a customer in the UK, and realized I had sewn the zipper backwards. it's a totally functional pack, just not an  exact copy of the original Chouinard model. It does have the new die cut leather lash tabs which are exact copies of the chouinard packs from the 70's.

so it's for sale for half price, $100 plus...
